HAFIZABAD-Local people have demanded stern action against encroachment mafia and some corrupt officials of Municipal Committee, and keeping a vigilant eye on them so as to ensure complete removal of encroachments on the roads.

An anti-encroachment campaign has been launched on a war-footing in the city to clean the busy roads like The Mall Lahore.

The city has been divided into eight red zones where no pushcart has been allowed from 8am to 8pm which has ensured smooth flow of traffic on all the thoroughfares of the city. The administration has evinced keen interest in improving the sanitary conditions.

It has directed the Municipal authorities to remove all permanent encroachments. The local social workers particularly male and female students and pedestrians have thanked the admin for fulfilling their dream to remove encroachments.

All the staff and elected representatives had failed to remove encroachments on the city roads in the past due to one or the other pretext but now one of the elected councillors of the MC Haji Amjad Parvaiz Chattha has been deputed to monitor the removal of the encroachments. He remained in the Municipal Secretariat from 8am to 8pm to strictly monitor the anti-encroachments squads.

Meanwhile, Kassoki police have arrested two notorious liquor smugglers while they were attempting to smuggle large quantity of liquor from Lahore to Mandi Bahuddin.

On a tip-off, SHO Ziafat Ali Baath along with heavy police contingent intercepted a car (LRZ-8679) near Karamullah Chowk on Sheikhupura-Bhaka Bhattian road. During search, the police recovered 183 bottles of liquor worth million of rupees. The police have arrested Asif and Waheed Akhtar and impounded the vehicle. A case has been registered against the accused.
