PM to represent Pakistan at World Economic Forum in Davos

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi would lead Pakistan's delegation at World Economic Forum at Davos in Switzerland, reported Radio Pakistan.

The theme of the four day event, beginning tomorrow, is Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World.

The meeting, spread over more than four hundred sessions, would call for leaders to work together to create a shared narrative that will improve the state of the world.

The Prime Minister's delegation includes, among others, Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Health Saira Afzal Tarar, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb and Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rehman.

In a statement, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting said majority of delegation members representing Pakistan at Davos Forum are women. She shows the importance being given to women by the Government of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said Pakistani delegation would highlight achievements made by Pakistan during the last four and a half years in the realm of economy, good governance, security, contribution and role of Pakistan in the war against terror and strengthening of democracy.

She said there was supremacy of Constitution and rule of law in the country and institutions are fully empowered. She said Pakistan civil society is active, freedom of expression is protected by the Constitution, media has unprecedented freedom, people are taking full advantage of modern technology including social media and the country is recognized as an emerging economy.

The Minister of State said under the vision of former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, peace has been restored because of sacrifices rendered by armed forces, police and law enforcing agencies. She said Pakistani nation braved the menace of terrorism with fortitude. She said marked decline in the incidents of terrorism is victory of Pakistan's resolve.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said Pakistan has demographic dividend as most of its population consists of youth and added that the present Government has initiated special programmes for their welfare. She said it is priority of the government to ensure education, training, constructive activities and employment for the youth.

The Minister of State would participate in a number of activities at the World Economic Forum. These include media interaction, and sessions like Women Leaders Dinner, Shaping the Future of Health and Together for a Healthier World.
