LAHORE - The Punjab health department has recommended the names of three senior doctors to the Punjab chief minister for the vacant post of Punjab Medico Legal Surgeon. A summery comprising the names of Dr Waseem Haider, Dr Mubashar Attique and Dr Abid Kareem have been moved to the chief minister for final approval for post of Punjab Medico Legal Surgeon. The said post was lying vacant for the last couple of weeks after the transfer of Punjab Medico Legal Surgeon Capt Dr (r) Ghulam Shabbir who has been posted as Medical Superintendent (MS) Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) against a vacant post. Dr Waseem Haider is currently working as Additional Principal Medical Officer/District Medico Legal Officer Lahore. Dr Mubashar Attique is working as Additional Principal Officer (APO) at Directorate General Health Punjab while Dr Abid Kareem as Additional Principal Officer (APO) at Medico Legal Punjab office. Out of the three candidates recommended for the said post, Dr Waseem is a strong candidate due to his impressive profile and education record as most of the senior health officers also supported him when the Punjab government sought consultations from the senior health officers holding key posts in the Punjab health department. MS PIC Capt (r) Ghulam Shabbir, who is still holding the charge of Medico Legal Surgeon Punjab, also gave strong comments in favour of Dr Waseem Haider for being highly qualified and diligent officer. In a letter addressed to the Punjab chief minister and chief secretary, Dr Ghulam Shabbir said he had brought revolutionary changes in the said department as Punjab Surgeon Medico Legal and would like to recommend the name of a good repute officer like Dr Waseem. Some of the health officers preferred Dr Abid Kareem and quite few were in favour of Dr Mubashar Attique for the said post. The summery moved by the Punjab health department revealed that Dr Waseem was the second Pakistani health officer who did PhD in Forensic Science from University of Health Sciences (UHS). He is also Member American Academy of Forensic Sciences, Colorado 80904, USA. He had served the Punjab health Department at the same post in the past for which his name was recommended from amongst two other health officers. The medical community was surprised for recommending the name of Dr Mubashar Attique for the said technical and sensitive post saying whenever he had been given important assignment in any health institute, he was transferred on the strong agitation of employees and officers of same institute due to his wrong policies.
