RAWALPINDI MNA Hanif Abbasi has urged Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Ijaz Butt to follow the merit policy strictly while selecting the national team as player like Sohail Tanveer who deserves selection in national team has been not considered. He was excluded from the team and it is a matter of grave concern for other youngsters who are knocking at the door of selection in national team but being ignored due to unfair selection policy. He expressed these views during a reception hosted in honour of National T20 Champions, Rawalpindi Rams, at the Rawalpindi Arts Council on Thursday. The reception was arranged in collaboration with Rawalpindi Traders Association. He said that Rawalpindi will get ten more cricket grounds very soon as Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has promised with him about these grounds. Hanif Abbasi said: We are proud of Rawalpindi Rams team as they made city proud by beating defending champion Lahore in the semi-final and Karachi in the final, he stated. He also announced prizes amounting to Rs 0.8 million, which include watches, ties, shirts, shields and cash on behalf of Rawalpini Traders Association. He also assured Sabih Azhar, coach of Rawalpindi Rams, of full Punjab government help to the players and team. Sabih Azhar also thanked the trader community and specially Hanif Abbasi for giving them such an honour and promised to bring more laurels to the city in future too. Sohail Tanveer the captain of Rawalpindi Rams while thanking the trader community and Hanif Abbasi said, despite having a relatively inexperienced side whose average age was not more than 22 years, he was quite hopeful of teams good show during the National Twenty20 championship. He said players dedication and hard work enabled them to win the title. Former MNA, Haji Pervaiz, MPAs Malik Ghulam Raza, Malik Iftikhar, Ch. Ayaz, Rawalpindi City Traders Association President Malik Shahid Ghafoor Paracha, Cant President Ch. Hafeez, Rawalpindi Medical College CEO, Dr Aslam and other notable politicians, elites of city and a huge crowd was also present on the occasion to see their heroes.
