Watch eye:DHA does a nice job

LAHORE After successful launching of the pilot project - Neighbourhood Watch System- in part of the Defense Housing Authority, the administration is widening the community welfare service across the residential society to provide best security services to its residents. The aim of the project is to gather the DHA residents at a platform where they can discuss the communit- related issues like sewerage and security. The pilot project was the brainchild of the DHAs president. It proved a complete success and now we are expanding it to other areas of the society, Tajammal Hussain Anjum, the DHA spokesman told the nation here on Thursday. In the pilot project launched in the B-block of DHA about one and half year ago, Tajammal said, the administration ensured round-the-clock armed patrolling that not only helped improve sense of security among the residents but also thwarted several robbery-attempts. Wireless-fitted vehicles and guards on motorcycles patrol in the locality round-the-clock. The DHA security guards respond to any incident within two minutes. The DHA administration is struggling hard to ensure foolproof security for its residents rather than relying only on the police, he added. The authorities have also installed security cameras at all the important points while a state-of-the-art monitoring cell has also been established to keep a check on the activities of the suspected elements. Under the Neighbourhood Watch System, the DHA residents hold monthly meetings to discuss the community related problems. The security commander and senior DHA officials also attend the meetings to resolve the issues of the community at priority basis emergent basis. The main object of DHA is to provide security to its residents by protecting its boundaries and assets through implementation of DHA bye-laws. We are also working to improve security environment in DHA during night hours besides performing watch and ward duty in the streets by checking of servants sitting outside the houses, checking of open gates of houses, and checking of suspicious persons roaming in the area of responsibility, he added. The DHA had circulated forms for registration of domestic servants to verify the servants, maids, drivers and other helpers who work and stay in DHA to control domestic/streets crimes. The verification of servants and other employed persons was made mandatory to everyone, he maintained. DHA traffic platoon is performing limited traffic control duty within DHA for smooth flow of traffic at main roads/junctions but due to gradual increase of residents and vehicles in DHA area it was tremendously felt to implement law and orders for the smooth flow of traffic.
