Karen Gillan whipped off a wig to reveal her newly-shaved head at the Guardians of the Galaxy panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

The Doctor Who actress, 25, was officially announced as villainous space pirate Nebula and showed up to the panel with a full head of hair. She then took off the wig to reveal her bald head telling the crowd: ‘It’s liberating. I think everyone here should shave their heads.’

The actress wore a red wig to attend the panel for season three of TV show NTSF:SD:SUV on Friday. The rest of the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy was officially unveiled at Saturday’s panel. Chris Pratt was previously announced by Marvel as Peter Quill/Star-Lord but no one else has been confirmed until now.

Along with Gillian, Zoe Saldana (who plays Gamora) and Benicio Del Toro (The Collector) also made a surprise appearance at the panel. The cast will also feature Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, John C Reilly as Rhomann and Djimon Hounsou as Koranth. Pratt said of Quill: ‘There’s a petulance to him. ‘Without going too much into his origin, he hasn’t been really held accountable as an adult. he’s just been free in space and able to do whatever he’s wanted to do.’ Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release on August 1, 2014.
