KARACHI  - Thousands of people rallied in Karachi on Sunday, denouncing the terrorist attack on the shrine of Hazrat Zainab (RA) in Syrian capital of Damascus and terming it a conspiracy against the Muslims.

“Death to Israel, down with the US”, and “No to terrorism, death to terrorists”, were the slogans that reverberated the streets as people rallied through the metropolis. One such mammoth rally was taken out from Numaish Chowrangi to Tibet Centre under the aegis of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Imamia Students Organisation and Markazi Tanzeem-e-Aza against the attack. The demonstrators were raising slogans against terrorists killing innocent Syrian Muslims and desecrating the holy shrines of Hazrat Ibrahim (PBUH) and Hazrat Hujr Ibn-e-Adi (RA).

Condemning the attack in a statement released by Jammat-e-Islami, party’s Sindh chief Dr Mirajul Huda Siddiqui stated anti-Islamic forces were hatching a conspiracy to divide the Ummah, and stressed the need for unity to crush the indiscriminate aims of the enemy.

Pakistan People’s Party Shaheed-Bhutto chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto, while flaying the attack, said this evil act was a wakeup call for the Muslim Ummah. “It is the need of the hour that we formulate a plan to safeguard the holy places of the Muslims,” she said while adding the attack was meant to split the Muslims across the world.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain condemned the attack on the shrine of Hazrat Zainab (RA), saying religious scholars from all schools of thought would have to create unity among their ranks and record historical protest against such dire acts of terrorism. Discussing the situation over telephone with prominent Shia scholar Allama Abbas Kumeli, Hussain said even being a Sunni Muslim he always raised his voice against oppression being meted out to the Shia community. He said the terrorists had not only attacked the shrine, but also the unity and oneness of the whole Muslim world.

Kumeli also said clerics and scholars would have to rise against the evil-doers.

Addressing a rally, Allama Aijaz Behishti, Maulana Munawar Naqvi, Allama Sadiq Taqvi and Allama Deedar Jalbani of the Majlis Wahdat-e-muslimeen, Athar Imran of ISO and Allama Jafar Raza and Ali Hussain of Tanzeem-e-Aza said from Karachi to Skardu, the Shia Muslims wearing black suits and armbands had come out of their houses to register their protest against the desecration of the shrine of Hazrat Zainab (RA).

They demanded the Ummah to decree against the ‘takfiri’ terrorists who were desecrating the holy shrines of Ahl-e-Bait (AS) and As-Hab (RA) in Syria and other places.

They said the terrorists had defamed Islam and the Muslims across the world; they deserved capital punishment. They also said all the Muslims were hurt by the blasphemous acts of the salafi takfiri terrorists in Syria.

They said the global imperialism led by the US and Israel had hired takfiri mercenaries to fight their proxy war against Islam. They said that war on Syrians was tantamount to defending the Zionists and a failed attempt to deflect public attention from atrocities of the Israeli regime.

They warned the Muslims would not tolerate desecration of the holy shrines, sand said worldwide condemnation of the takfiris was a proof that they were rejected elements. They also demanded the UN to stop the US and its allies from meddling into internal affairs of Syria.
