Quetta - Two oil tankers were destroyed in an attack by armed men in Mastung district, some 40 km southeast of Quetta, on Sunday.

Levies officials said unknown miscreants opened indiscriminate fire on the tankers on National Highway in Dasht area of Mastung. “The firing left the tankers destroyed as they caught fire, however nobody was hurt in the attack,” they added. A case has been registered against the unknown attackers and investigation into the incident was under way. Attacks on containers particularly carrying supplies of Nato forces are common on highways connecting Karachi with Quetta and Bolan.

28 SUSPECTS ARRESTED INP adds: The FC and police personnel arrested 28 suspects during a security operation conducted in the Kali Gio area of Saryab Road on Saturday night on the information that terrorists are present in the area. All the entry and exit points in the area were sealed off before the operation. More than 500 security officials, including ladies police, took part in the house-to-house search in the area. Fayyaz Sunbal, the Deputy Inspector General Police, said that security forces recovered weapons and explosive materials from the suspects during the operation. All 28 suspects were interrogated by the senior police officers.  Moreover, Sunbal said a large number of forces participated in the search operation and secured all the suspicious areas, adding they did not face any resistance and it was under way for few hours.

Police were informed by credible sources that some miscreants had established safe havens in the area to carry out target killings and bomb blasts in the city. Sunbal said after investigation innocent people would be set free whereas criminals would be produced before the court of law.

Forces have conducted search operations in the wake of repeated incidents of terrorism in Balochistan. The provincial government has strictly directed police and FC persons to rein in those elements who are creating law and order problems.
