The federal government is contemplating introducing more new products including provision of loans and training in different skills to the poor women under the Benazir Income Support Programme to ameliorate socio-economic conditions of the women folk in the country.

This was stated by Minister of State and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Marvi Memon while addressing the women members of the Benazir Beneficiary Committees (BBC) at Mian Mohammad Town here the other day.

The minister exchanged Eid greetings with the participants of the huge gathering of the women including the BBC members and inquired about their well being.

On the occasion, BISP Divisional Director Khizer Hayat highlighted the salient features of the ongoing BISP-sponsored welfare programmes in Mirpur and Rawalakot divisions of AJK.

Marvi Memon said that the proposed new products would be launched with the coordination of the provinces to benefit maximum deserving women belonging to poor and down trodden class to empower them economically. She added that the government was also seriously thinking about imparting professional training to unskilled women in the BBCs to turn them skilled in different disciplines. “The welfare program primarily envisages the empowerment of women to getting them rid of poverty”, the minister elaborated.

The Minister of State said that the incumbent government primarily intended to ensure and secure the dignity, honour and respect of the women through empowerment in true perspective and alleviate poverty.

She continued that the formation of the Benazir Beneficiary Committees (BBCs), headed by Mother Leaders, was primarily aimed at ensuring direct participation of deserving women. The minister invited suggestions from the BBCs members to ensure further improvement and a vibrant role of these committees to benefit maximum of deserving women under the broad-based welfare programme.

Later talking on newsmen, Mavi Memon said that her visit to the members of the BBCs was primarily aimed at exchanging Eid greetings with them. She said that direct access of the BBCs members with the government would help in bringing maximum poor women into the BISP fold for due benefits under the ongoing welfare schemes.

To a question about the recent unprovoked firing by the Indian troops on the Line of Control and Working Boundary, the minister said that the PML-N government had given a befitting reply to India over the aggressive posture of New Delhi. She said that Pakistan was a peace-loving country as “we want to live with peace.”

The minister further said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sahrif and the Foreign Office of Pakistan were in constant touch with the international community apprising them of the recent Indian aggression on the LoC in AJK as well as the Working Boundary. International community their-self was watching the constant abuse of the international laws, norms and commitments through the frequent violations of the LoC and the WB by India, she underlined. She expressed that hope that Indian would opt to live in peace in response to the peace-loving approach of Pakistan.

In her message to the people of Jammu & Kashmir Marvi said “Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan. Pakistan, she stated, always raised the Kashmir issue at international level n most effective manner. She added that the day will soon come when all the issues including the core issue of Jammu & Kashmir will be settled peacefully.
