Kabul: Taliban insurgents have reportedly hanged a tribal elder in central Uruzgan province early Wednesday, local officials said.

The incident took place in Khas Uruzgan district of the province after Taliban insurgents abducted Haji Abbas a tribal elder. After a few hours he was found hanged, district governor, Abdul Karim Karimi said.

"The motive behind the incident is not yet clear. He [was found] in an area which is not under the control of the government," he said.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

But Taliban insurgents previously targeted tribal elders in the region who had been working with the government.
