Two dead, 10 injured in road accidents

LAHORE - Two persons including a mother of four were killed and 10 others wounded in rain-related accidents in different parts of the provincial metropolis on Tuesday.
A 20-year-old motorcyclist was crushed to death by a rashly-driven van near Samanabad Mor on Tuesday. The police are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
An eyewitness told rescue workers that a speedy van smashed into a two-wheeler during downpour on the Multan Road. As a result, the motorcyclist died on the spot. Some passersby managed to capture the van driver. He was later handed over to the police. The police moved the body to the morgue and are investigating.
In another incident, a mother of four was crossing the Ferozpur road in Kot Lakhpat area when a car ran over her. The woman, said to be a housemaid, died on the spot. The driver along with the car fled instantly. The police are investigating.
Also, three people were wounded critically when a signboard fell on them during heavy rains in Johar Town. Zain, Kashif, and Mubarak were waiting for transport at a bus-stop when the signboard collapsed on them. They were immediately rushed to the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) where the condition of Zain and Mubarak was said to be serious till late Tuesday.
Similarly, Salamat Masih and Javed were injured critically when the roof of a dilapidated house collapsed on them in Nawan Kot. The rescue workers rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to hospital.
Meanwhile, five passersby were injured when trees and electric poles fell on them during the downpour in Race Course police precincts.
