Mum-of-three killed for ‘honour’

LAHORE - A 40-year-old woman was shot and killed by her relative in Old Kahna area yesterday. Police investigators said the brutal murder appeared to be an incident of so-called “honour killing”.

Police yesterday identified the victim as Najma Bibi, said to be a mother of three. The alleged killer named by police as Muhammad Aslam is appeared to be the younger brother of her husband. Aslam shot and killed Najma at their joint-accommodation after she got into an argument with him.

The killer later surrendered himself to the local police. The body was shifted to the morgue for an autopsy. Initial investigations revealed that the husband of the victim was declared proclaimed offender in a murder case while her son was jailed in the same case several years ago. The lady was residing with Aslam’s family since then.

On the day of incident, Aslam exchanged harsh words with the lady over some “domestic dispute” and later killed her with a pistol. Police sources say the man killed her relative for developing relationship with some other men.

The Kahna police yesterday registered a murder case against Aslam on the complaint of a son of the lady and were investigating.
