LAHORE  - A 40-year-old woman was shot dead when she was returning from a police station in Nishtar Colony on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Noreen from Khalid Nagar, has been in pursuit of justice to the murder of her husband Ashraf Ali.

Ali was allegedly killed by his opponents a couple of days ago. Gunmen ambushed Noreen on a busy road when she was returning after recording her statement with the homicide investigation cell of the Kahna police.

The attackers stopped the woman on a busy road and opened straight fire on the victim, killing her on the spot. They fled instantly. Police reached the spot when the gunmen had escaped. The body was moved to the morgue for autopsy. Police investigators said the criminals who had killed her husband were still at large.

Reportedly Salman and Irshad murdered Ashraf Ali over a dispute in the Kahna police precincts a few days ago. The police had registered a murder cases against both the suspects on the complaint of Noreen but failed to arrest the killers. An official said the deceased was targeted by criminals for pursuing the murder case of her husband.  The police later registered the murder case of Noreen against the same attackers on the complaint of her brother-in-law Asghar Ali. However, no arrest was made till late Saturday.
