PPP expels key leader for seeking ASWJ’s support

KARACHI - The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has expelled the party’s federal council member Haji Muzafar Ali Shujra for acquiring support of a banned outfit for the upcoming general elections.  The party has also issued notices to other candidates for the same reason. The PPP has made it clear that it is against any alliance with the banned outfits as done by the PTI and PML-N and will accept defeat, but not tolerate any such alliance.

It is pertinent to mention here that former PPP provincial minister Shujra was running his campaign as an independent candidate and has joined hands with banned ASWJ leader Allama Aurangzeb Farooqui. Farooqui is contesting election from the platform of Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party in the NA-238, Malir, constituency.

The party’s Karachi President Saeed Ghani has also issued show-cause notices to NA-251 candidate Jameel Zia and PS-119 candidate Agha Zahir Shah and intimated them that their meetings with banned outfit members were against the party’s discipline and they should explain their position on the matter. In a tweet from the official account of the ASWJ, the Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party announced its support for PPP candidates Haji Jameel Zia and Agha Zahir Shah in NA-251 and PS-119, respectively, which largely covered neighbourhoods of Orangi Town.

Meanwhile, pictures of PPP leaders such as Mujahid Baloch, Shehzad Memon and Arif Hussain Qureshi with ASWJ leaders were doing rounds on the social media.

The party supporters have asked the leadership to review their candidature on the same grounds and issue show-cause notices to them for reaching out to outlawed outfits for support.
