Which leader has selected which city for last two days

| Electioneering ends tomorrow

LAHORE - Heads of three major political parties have hectic schedules for the next two days as the electioneering comes to an end on the night between July 23 and July 24.

There will be no election campaign on July 24 (Tuesday), a day before the polling day. Contesting candidates are left with only two days - Sunday (today) and Monday (tomorrow) – for door-to-door canvassing, corner meetings and public rallies.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif is set to address a number of public rallies in Multan and DG Khan on Sunday and Monday respectively. These two cities of south Punjab witnessed large scale defections from the PML-N to the PTI couple of months back.

The PML-N president has probably chosen these cities for the last two days of electioneering to make up for the damage done to the party in the southern region where the PTI seems to have taken roots in the fast changing election scenario.

On the other hand, PTI chief Imran Khan has selected Karachi and Lahore for his election rallies. In Karachi, he is addressing one public rally at Mazar-e-Quaid ground on Sunday. He will also visit party offices of PTI candidates after addressing this rally.

Karachi has become important for the PTI especially after the disintegration of MQM in this city. Like other political parties, Khan’s party wants to have its share of seats out of the spoils. PTI chief will fly to Lahore in the evening to address rallies in Lahore the following day (Monday).

Khan has plans to address rallies in NA-131 and NA-130 on the last two days of the election campaign. PTI chief is a candidate for NA-131 where PML-N’s stalwart Khawaja Saad Rafique is posing a serious challenge to Khan. Shafqat Mehmood of the PTI and Khawaja Ahmad Hassan of the PML-N are face to face in NA-130 for the second time. Shafqat won this seat in 2013 though the margin of victory was narrow.

Khan may also visit the constituency of Dr Yasmin Rashid (NA-125) on Monday but party sources did not confirm his arrival in this constituency.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has picked six cities of interior Sindh for the election activity ahead of July 25 vote.

Bilawal is visiting Sehwan Sharif (Jamshoro district) on Sunday to fuel the election campaign of PPP candidate Sikandar Ali Rahoupoto contesting election from NA-233. PML-N has fielded a Hindu candidate Kesoo Mal Kheoal for this constituency while the PTI has left it vacant.

Bilawal is also scheduled to visit Dadu the same day. This district has got two national seats - NA-234 and NA-235. A tough contest is expected on NA-234 where a former Sindh chief Minister and PTI’s candidate Liaqat Ali Jatoi is in the run against Irfan Ali Leghari of the PPP.

Reports emanating from Dadu suggest that Mr Jatoi is pulling larger crowds in his rallies. July 25 vote will, however, show if Bilawal’s arrival in this constituency made any difference.

The PPP chairman may also visit NA-235 in Dadu district today. A pitched battle is likely on this seat among Rafique Ahmad Jamali of the PPP, Karim Ali Jatoi of the PTI and Ahmad Khan Lund of the PML-N. Bilawal may also address a rally in his own constituency in Larkana (NA-200) on Sunday evening.

His earlier schedule to visit Thatta on Sunday to seek public support for PPP’s woman candidate Sham-un-Nisa contesting from NA-232 has been cancelled apparently for security reasons. She is facing a big challenge here from Ghulam Abbas Attari of the PML-N and Arslan Bux Barohi of the PTI.

On Monday, the PPP chairman will be leading election rallies in Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Shehdaab Kot.
