Bar associations seek lock-up of all courts

LAHORE- All the four Bar associations of the Lahore High Court Saturday sought lock-up of the courts from Supreme Court to the lowest level of judiciary, to materialise the demand for restoration of judges deposed on November 3 through a PCO of then Army Chief Pervez Musharraf. Respective president and secretary of the Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur Bar of the Lahore High Court after a joint meeting held on finding out the shortcomings in the last long march of the lawyers and others, have sought pressure on the government to restore the deposed judges by way of stalling working of the judiciary at all level by putting locks on the courtrooms. The office bearers of the said bars told a press conference here that they would recommend to the Lawyers Representatives Conference in Islamabad on July 28 to lock up courts until the sacked judges were put back on the job. Lahore High Court Bar Association, Lahore President, Anwar Kamal, Rawalpindi President Sardar Asmat Kamal, Multan President Muhammad Mahmood Ashraf, and Bahawalpur President Malik Aslam Chunnar and the Lahore Secretary, Rana Asad Ullah Khan, Multan Secretary, Rana Muhammad Naveed, Rawalpindi Secretary, Malik Muhammad Siddique Awan, and Bahawalpur Secretary Muhammad Umair Mohsin and Vice President LHCBA Lahore, Muhammad Aslam and the Finance Secretary Feroza Rubab were present to brief the press on the meeting. Leading others, Anwar Kamal said long march of the legal fraternity from all over the country was highly successful however it had certain shortcomings at the conclusion which necessitate more working and proposals to overcome the flaws as well as to create an effective coordination and communication system among the managers of the lawyers movement in future. He said the meeting has decided to recommend to the Conference on June 28 for the constitution of a national coordination committee represented by the bar associations and bar councils of the country and AJK, for deciding and approving all actions to be taken by the lawyers. This Committee would be a permanent body with a strong system of communication. He said the joint action committee of the LHCBA feels much satisfied with the large-scale participation of the people to make the long march a big success. Anwar Kamal said the long march had conveyed in a befitting way a message to the international community that the Pakistanis were a living nation knowing how to fight for their rights and for restoration of the judges. He said on behalf of others that the nation would against stand by the lawyers whenever they gave a call to them. Anwar Kamal once against demanded of the government to immediately make the judges functional through an executive order otherwise the gathering of hundred of thousands of people who turned back from Islamabad emptied handed, would not do the same again but get their hand on the collars of the rulers for not fulfilling the promise. The committee of the four benches of the LHCBA saluted the contribution that media made to their movement. It also reposed a complete confidence in the leadership of the lawyers and that a complete harmony and consensus is found among them. He said the lawyers would continue the movement not shirking giving any sacrifices.
