LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif has ordered installation of cold-and-filtered water dispensers in corridors and wards of all teaching hospitals, District Headquarters Hospitals and Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals in the province within a week. In a directive sent to Secretary Health and all DCOs in Punjab, the Chief Minister ordered that report regarding the implementation of the directive should be sent through the Secretary Health to the Chief Minister's Secretary accordingly. This report should be duly countersigned and verified by DCOs concerned, the directive concluded. The decision of installation of cold-and-filtered water dispensers was taken on the complaints of the patients, their relatives and other visitors who were facing immense trouble in getting pure and cold drinking water in the premises of the hospitals. Most of the Punjab province's hospitals also including mega teaching hospitals were missing the facility of cold-and-filtered water dispensers. The patients and their relatives had no option other than to arrange cold drinking water from their own resources. Most of them were purchasing bottles of mineral water from the canteens of the hospitals and nearby medical stores on high rates. In the absence of the cold and filtered drinking water, business of the canteen owners was flourishing as the bottles of mineral water were among the top of the list of those commodities, sale of which were on the rise.
