A ferry carrying over 700 passengers has partially sunk off the coast of the central Philippines after being battered by huge waves caused by a typhoon, reports and officials said Sunday. The ill-fated ferry was stranded in wind-whipped waters off the coast of the central Philippines on Saturday as Typhoon Fengshen battered the country, killing 17, officials said. Homes in the city of Iloilo have been flooded by rising waters following the arrival of Typhoon Fengshen. Sulpicio port captain Nestor Ponteres said they had lost radio contact with the ship, which last reported that it had run aground and was listing.
