KARACHI - Hong Kong cricket team considered as the weakest combination in the six team Asia Cup starting here June 24 got the first feel of local weather and the National stadium when they held three hours hard training under a cloudy sky and cool breeze on Saturday late morning. The long awaited rains during last twenty-four hours had turned the oppressive weather pleasant in this port city. The temperatures particularly in the morning are cool and bearable. The evening is even better. The humidity percentage is at the lower side. Though cricket had remained weekend pastime of the island territory since the day British expansionist set its foot on its future colony about 150 years ago but very recently with the game turning into multi-million dollar industry with huge financial opportunities for the players the game had prospered. At the junior level the game is stronger in the island than at the senior level where naturalised citizens dominant. Out of fifteen named for the competition eleven had sub-continental roots while about four are of British origin. The Hongkongers arrived late on Friday night and was received by Tahir Ansari who had been appointed local liaison officer for the team during it stay. UAE another new comer to the competition, and Bangladesh arrived in Lahore and Sri Lanka is due there some time Saturday. The Indian team under M.S. Dhoni is due in the city some time on Monday. The Indians will hold pre tournament media briefing at 7 PM on Monday. Pakistan cricket team held its second training session on Saturday evening. Muhammad Yousuf joined the team and trained with his teammates. Pakistan will hold media briefing on Sunday evening. Hong Kong team will meet the press before Pakistani captain and coach talk to the media.
