Surrender

The Article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan is reproduced below for ready reference, (1) Any person who abrogates or attempts or conspires to abrogate, subverts or attempts or conspires to subvert the Constitution by use of force or show of force or by other unconstitutional means shall be guilty of high treason. (2) Any person aiding or abetting the acts mentioned in clause (1) shall likewise be guilty of high treason. (3) [5] [Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament)] shall by law provide for the punishment of persons found guilty of high treason. Constitution is the supreme law of the land, but thanks to the NRO, the way the present PPP government is behaving while dealing with the man who has abrogated and subverted the constitution twice is shameful. The will of the political sovereign has been shelved and compromised only for the benefit of the Bhutto family. A person who according to all surveys is the most unpopular person in Pakistan continues to enjoy his position as a viceroy of America despite his crimes against the nation. It is also amazing that the teams that abetted in subversion of constitution on October 12, 1999 and November 3, 2007 are not even discussed. If a country, owing to the impotency and self centered mentality of its politicians cannot implement a certain law, that law should either not be framed in the first place or amended later on because when a law is not implemented, it means that the system has surrendered to lawlessness. -SHAHZAD RABBANI, Lahore, via e-mail, June 5.
