KARACHI - Special Investigation Unit Police claimed to have arrested an arms smuggler and recovered huge cache of weapons from his possession on Thursday.
SSP Khurram Waris said that police party conducted a raid at Cantt Mor near Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on a tip off and arrested a man namely Ilyas alias Guddu alias Bandoq and recovered three repeaters, one 8MM rifle, one 12 bore rifle, four TT pistols , one MP5 riffle and punch machine from his possession.
Officer said during interrogation he confessed that he was involved in smuggling arms in the City. He further informed that he was also arrested in 1990 for arms smugglings but after released from jail he starts smugglings again. He said that accused also punch the numbers in arms with the help of his punch machine and at the time of arrest he was going to supply weapons for criminals. Further investigation is in process.
Separately, police party arrested a Lyari gangster namely Haris Niazi near from Lyari general hospital. Police sources said that Haris received bullet injuries on the firing of unidentified men in Ghaas Mandi. He was going to Lyari General Hospital when the police party conducted raid and shifted him to unknown place. When contacted, the Chakiwara Police official denied any arrest of Haris Niazi.
