FAPUASA plans to mark Black Day on 25th

ISLAMABAD - The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has announced to observe Black Day on June 25 in all the public sector universities against non-allocation of required budget for public sector universities and for reinstatement of terminated teachers of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU), Sindh.According to a statement issued by the Association here on Thursday, under the umbrella of FAPUASA all the provincial chapters and representatives of all the Academic Staff Associations will observe black day on June 25 (Monday) and display protesting banners carrying the slogan for the reinstatement of the terminated teachers of the SBBU, Nawab Shah, Sindh, and allocation of required budget for the universities and protest in front of press clubs of each provincial and federal capital. Furthermore, FAPUASA will hold a general body meeting on June 28 in Islamabad. Keeping in view the importance of the higher education and continuation of the ongoing and new research and development projects and also the adjustment for the 20 per cent enhancement in the salaries, the FAPUASA strongly demands of the federal government for allocation of budget as per requirement for recurring budget with no cuts on the development budget and immediate payment of the last quarter of the previous financial year, said the statement. The present budget allocation for higher education of Rs 15.8 billion for all the public sector universities of the country is insufficient and do not fulfil the needs of the universities while the developmental budget, was also found far less than the required budget.Furthermore, the last quarter budget of the previous financial year was also not released by the federal government to universities. The FAPUASA strongly condemned the atrocities of the imposed Vice-Chancellor, devoid of fulfilling the requirement of a vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, who inflicted on the teachers for the pleasure of his boss. ‘He has crossed all limits; even he attacked the respected teachers physically and sent them to jail by registering an FIR,” the association said. The FAPUASA demands not only the withdrawal of FIRs but also the reinstatement of the 12 dismissed teachers respectfully, and the appointment of the VC as per HEC criteria’. It was observed that the atrocities of the SBBU administration regarding manhandling and arrest of university teachers are indeed unethical and of unique nature in the history of Pakistan, and these acts themselves are enough to get this VC terminated immediately. The FAPUASA also reiterated the demand for the appointment of new in-service VC at the University of Sindh and acceptance of other demands put forward through the platform of FAPUASA.
