KARACHI – The Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday underlined the need for promoting the culture of blood donation, saying that Pakistan faced shortage of three million blood bags annually.
Addressing a joint news conference, JI Sindh Vice-Chief Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui and JI Karachi Chief Mohammad Hussain Mehanti came down hard on the government for allocating just 6 per cent of the budget for the health sector.
They regretted that the government made a measly allocation for the health sector, despite the fact that this amount was insufficient for a country like Pakistan. They announced that JI Chief Munawar Hassan would inaugurate the first blood bank of the party’s welfare wing, Al-Khidmat Foundation, on June 23.
The JI leaders appealed to the citizens to come forward to support their party’s cause of the provision of screen-blood at economical prices.
