A meeting to review the half-year performance of police in Bahawalpur Region was convened under the chair of RPO Ehsan Sadiq and participation of the district police officers of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.
Discussing the security issues, the RPO directed the DPOs that fool-proof measures be taken to ensure security of sensitive installations, railway tracks, bus stands, schools, Imambargahs and churches. The security of Ramazan bazaar and Dastarkhawans particularly during prayer timings be intensified, he ordered. He asked the DPOs to pay special attention to the security of foreigners especially Chinese working/residing in the region. He emphasised that the action under National Action Plan be vigorated so that the anti state elements have a clear message that the police were ready to crush them with iron hands. The regional police officer also gave an analytical description of the crime statistics of the region in detail. He asked DPOs to ensure immediate registration of cases when criminal occurrence takes place. The under investigation cases must be finalised within stipulated timeframe and the cases in which incomplete challans have been sent, be completed by removing deficiencies, he directed.
“Accused of blind murder, dacoity and robbery should be arrested. Arrest of proclaimed offenders is one of the paramount priority of police and outstanding POs be arrested by constituting special teams. Stern action be taken against the harbourers of criminals,” he said. He emphasised to take action against brothel houses, drug peddlars, gambling dens and illegal arms. It was also stressed upon the DPOs that they should supervise the traffic licensing system and working of traffic. He expressed concern that due to traffic accidents, precious lives were lost which can be minimised by creating awareness in the public about traffic rules and by effective role of traffic staff.
The RPO directed for improving working and response time of Rescue 15. He said that with a vision to change the traditional Thana culture, provide quick response and help to the victims/complainants, visiting the police stations, victim response officers had been posted at police stations of the region. The public should be made aware through media and by flexes about the facility of response officers.
He highlighted the steps being taken for improvement in the professional police working which are effective training, accountability and welfare of force. The chair said that in RPO Office monitoring/surveillance system has been launched which is monitoring service of summons, warrants, bails, acquittals, submission of challans, pendency of chemical results in forensic science agency on daily basis. In this context, certain issues were discussed with the DPOs which came forth during daily monitoring. The status of police stations buildings, welfare schemes, condition of police vehicles was also discussed.
In the concluding remarks, the RPO appreciated the performance of DPOs and reiterated that the feedback of public is the real source of quantification of policing. The ratio of crime has decreased in the Region due to efforts made by the DPOs in prevention of crime. However, there is still a lot we have to achieve, he said. The DPOs should redress the grievances of public on priority basis so that the public may restore their confidence on police, he said.
