LAHORE : Indian authorities on Sunday handed over 88 Pakistani fishermen to Punjab Rangers at the Wagha border. The move comes on the heels of release of over 100 Indian fishermen by Pakistan a few days back after prime ministers of both the countries made a telephonic contact earlier this week.

The Punjab Rangers spokesman said that the Indian government has released the fishermen as a goodwill gesture and reciprocity after over 100 Indian fishermen were released by Pakistan.

Some 53 Pakistani fishermen were still detained in Indian jails and around 300 Indian fishermen were languishing in Pakistani jails.

The Rangers spokesperson said that Pakistan has released some 1,200 Indian fishermen and their 57 boats during the last one year.
