ISLAMABAD - JAVAID-UR-RAHMAN - Apart from discussing nine-point agenda items, the Federal Cabinet is likely to take up the recommendations firmed up by the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) on ties with the US at its meeting today (Thursday), sources said.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will chair the meeting. Sources said the Pakistan People’s Party-led government would also discuss strategy to develop consensus with its coalition partners about the recommendations presented in the joint sitting of Parliament. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz took some time to review the recommendations and full-fledged discussion on it will be initiated on Monday.

The cabinet would give its go-ahead to the decisions of Economic Coordination Committee, which were taken on March 13. The cabinet approved Rs6.1b commercial loan of Pakistan Railways (PR), while sub-committees were formed for financing arrangements for Iran-Pakistan gasline project and export of two million tonnes of wheat.

The sources said the cabinet will also review the status of implementation of its decisions taken in previous meeting. A detailed presentation on consumer price index will be given in the meeting.

The meeting will also discuss equal treatment for contribution in research and development fund for fixed line and mobile operators.

Sources said that approval in principle to start negotiation and signing of agreement between Saarc disaster management authority and NDMA about South Asia disaster knowledge network may also be given while it may get briefing on the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). The cabinet may give approval to start negotiation with EV-K2-CNR on MoU on climate change and adaptation measures, said sources.
