Drunk DSP shoots kin dead at dance party


LAHORE - A retired Prisons Department officer on Wednesday shot dead his 22-year-old nephew at a dance party in Akbari Gate area, the police said.
Police said that the killer had a property dispute with the father of the deceased. Police investigators said that Muhammad Awais, who got retirement from Prison Department as Deputy Superintendent of Jail police in 2004, killed his nephew Roheel Ilyas when he was under the heavy influence of liquor during the dance party.
Awais arranged drink and dance party at his residence (House No 1351) in Hvaily Misraan area situated inside Akbari Gate area late on Tuesday night and invited his fiends, mostly government officers. His nephew Ilyas was also invited in the party.
They were drinking liquor when Awais exchanged hot words with his nephew. The former DSP got infuriated, took out his gun, and opened straight fire at Roheel. The youth sustained serious bullet wounds and died on the spot while the government officers who were present on the crime scene fled away instantly.
Muhammad Ilyas, father of the deceased, told the police that his brother killed his only son over property dispute. The police have arrested the killer and put him behind the bars.
The police have also registered a murder case against the DSP on the complaint of Muhammad Ilyas, father of the deceased. The police removed the body to the morgue for an autopsy and are investigating.
Most-wanted robber, two cops escape from hospital: City police are searching for two policemen who helped a most wanted gangster escape from the hospital and later also fled away from their duty-point, police said on Wednesday.
The robber, who was admitted to Jinnah hospital with bullet wounds he sustained during an encounter, escaped from the hospital in connivance with the policemen, the sources said.
Police sources said that Constable Khadim and Liaqat of Green Town police station were on-duty when the robber escaped from the hospital ward. Some five days ago, the local residents captured the robber, later identified as Aziz, when he was fleeing after committing an armed robbery in Green Town area and handed him over to the police. Police claimed that the alleged robber had also sustained a bullet during an encounter and he was admitted to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment. Police Constables Khadim and Liaqat were deployed outside the hospital ward. Since Tuesday night, the robber and the policemen had gone missing. Police said that the robber escaped in connivance with the policemen. According to SP Sardar, the robber was wanted to the police in no less than 46 cases of armed robberies and other street crimes. Further investigations are underway.
