LAHORE – Shoaib Malik with his superb all-round performance steered Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to 36-run triumph over Habib Bank Limited (HBL) in the Faysal Bank One-day Cup (Division-I) final match played here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

Put into bat first, PIA scored 237 runs in 49.5 overs. Malik played an impressive unbeaten innings of 80 runs off 88 balls laced with five fours and one six. Faisal Iqbal added 41 runs and Kamran Sajid 33 in their team’s total. Danish Kaneria though bowled brilliantly and clinched superb seven wickets for 39 runs yet could not save his team from defeat.

Habib Bank, in reply, were all out for 201 runs in 47.1 overs. Kamran Husain (40), Taufeeq Umer (34) and Hasan Raza (29) were main scorers for HBL. Ziaul Haq and Kamran Sajid grabbed three wickets each for 23 and 37 runs, respectively, while Malik took 2-33. PIA pocketed Rs 500,000 along with winner’s trophy, runners-up HBL earned Rs 250,000 and runners-up trophy while man of the final match Shoaib Malik (PIA) won Rs 50,000 and trophy.

Malik was also declared the best batsman of the event and received Rs 50,000 and trophy while the best bowler Danish Kaneria (HBL), the best fielder Taufeeq Umer (HBL), the best wicketkeepers Humayun Farhat (HBL) and Mubeen Mughal (Sialkot Stallions) received Rs 50,000 and trophy each.
