New tyre regulation by-laws to be implemented

LAHORE - Environment Protection Department Secretary Sajjad Saleem Hotiana has issued instructions to all Town Municipal Officers to clear tyres from their respective towns within next three days.
He issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting along with Local Government Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal held at DCO office here on Wednesday. EPD Secretary Sajjad Saleem said that in line with the experts’ reports, the Punjab government had decided to implement new by-laws for the regulation of tyres. He said that the TMOs were directed to complete the licensing process of all tyres shops and warehouses before March. The licensing process and the implementation of new by-laws are pending due to the laxity of TMOs, he added. Secretary EPD warned the TMOs of the dire consequences if piled tyres were found without any cover or in open space in any area during inspection. Local Government Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal showed dissatisfaction in the slow performance of TMOs in the process of licensing.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Jawad Rafiq Malik has ordered the entomologists to expedite the anti-dengue drive and create public awareness through cable operators as public participation was imperative to control the menace. While presiding over a meeting at Commissioner’s office regarding provision of transportation to dengue surveillance teams on Wednesday, he said that dengue units had been set up in every union council and transport facilities were provided to the teams.
The dengue surveillance teams headed by entomologists would identify the larvae in their indoor and outdoor activities and send the data to the authorities concerned to take further notice.
The commissioner directed the entomologists to strictly monitor private properties, houses, mills, factories, tyre shops, graveyards, nurseries and warehouses.
