LAHORE - Punjab Para Olympic Association (PPOA) in collaboration with Punjab Olympic Association is organising wheelchair marathon race here on March 25.

PPOA president Dr Khalid Jamil said this in a press conference here on Wednesday while PBOA secretary Idrees Haider Khawaja and M Azmat were also present there. Dr Jamil said the three-kilometre event had been especially designed for physically handicapped athletes on wheelchair.

"It is going to be a national event as special athletes from Sindh and Balochistan are also participating," he asserted.

He said nearly 200 athletes drawn in three categories according to their physical disability will start from Liberty round about in the morning and will end their journey at the same point after going through Gulberg Main Boulevard. Dr Jamil appealed to the government to provide sports wheelchairs to promising special athletes so that they could compete at the highest level of the game.

Idrees Khawaja said Punjab Olympic Association has announced attractive cash prizes for the notable position holder and Rs 100,000 will be distributed among them.
