LAHORE - A giant group of 1300 students will attempt to paint world’s largest canvas here on March 23 at National Hockey Stadium to mark the Pakistan Day celebrations in a unique way.

Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mashood Ahmad said this while addressing a news conference here on Wednesday. Director General Sports Board Punjab Usman Anwar was also present there.

Mashood said the aim of painting biggest canvas measuring at 42000 square feet was to get a place in Guinness Book of World Record. “Students of various educational institutions will be competing in ‘street competition’ to highlight the culture, sports and heritage of Pakistan in a unique way by painting world’s largest canvas in the presence of people who will be watching them to aim for a world record from 9 am to 5 pm,” he said.

The previous record was set by Nigerian students by painting 3400 square feet canvas. “We have just organised a very successful Punjab Sports Festival which drew the attention of masses of not only Punjab but also Pakistan and we believe that this event will also become a major activity which was never done before in the country,” Rana Mashood added.

He said the theme of the canvas was to paint the national flag while highlighting Pakistan’s centuries old culture and heritage and its sports achievements at international level. “The aim is to develop a soft image of Pakistan and to introduce its culture and heritage world wide by attempting a world record,” he concluded.
