ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Nisar Ali on Friday warned of major action against the militants trying to sabotage government's peace initiative with Taliban.
"Some forces are at our target and if they did not refrain from their sabotaging attempts, we will take action against them", the minister said while addressing a press conference here at Nadra Headquarter.
He sounded upbeat about the manner peace process is progressing saying direct negotiations between the government committee and the TTP political Shura would start in few days. He strongly rejected the impression there was any deadlock over issue of venue of meeting, adding that peace process is undergoing a crucial phase.
During his visit at the Nadra head office, he said process was underway for appointment of a regular Nadra chairman in a highly transparent manner. Answering a question, he said work had been completed to appoint a grade 22 officer as Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general and the appointment would be made in the coming days.
The minister said National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC), whose secret funds were criminally misused by the previous government, would be abolished. He said Islamabad Safe City project has been approved and an agreement to this effect would be signed with a Chinese company.
To a question about district courts terror incident, he said Supreme Court and Islamabad High Courts were holding inquiries about the incident. A government committee was also conducting inquiry, which would be done in a transparent manner, he assured.
Nisar said that 361 ghost employees had been detected in Nadra and the payment of their salaries had been stopped. He further said that the services of 12 Nadra employees were terminated for issuing illegal computerized national identity cards (CNICs). The minister barred all Nadra employees from making any contact with foreign nationals. He also ordered an audit of all regional offices of the organisation.
Nisar said the number of director generals in Nadra has been reduced from 36 to 24, adding that the audit of country's registration authority has started after eight years. He said as a result of measures taken by the incumbent government, the organisation earned profit of about Rs100 million during the last two months. The minister also highlighted some projects, which according to him would further enhance Nadra's income.
