ISLAMABAD - Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday made telephone calls to heads of various political parties to take them into confidence on the agreement reached with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf over the formation of judicial commission to probe alleged rigging in 2013 general elections.

Those who were approached included Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Sirajul Haq, PPP leader Rehman Malik, National Party Chief Mir Hasil Bazenjo, Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, Leader of Opposition in Senate Ch Aitzaz Ahsan, MQM central leader Dr Farooq Sattar and FATA Parliamentary Leader GG Jamal.

According to a press release issued by the office of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, all these leaders have welcomed the breakthrough in the government-PTI negotiations for formation of judicial commission and hoped that the development would go well for future of democracy.

The insiders in the ruling PML-N informed that finance minister has briefed these leaders on the broader contours decided during the course of negotiations with PTI negotiation team and sought the input from these leaders in further making the proposed judicial commission more effective.

All these leaders have extended to Ishaq Dar their facilitations over the agreement reached with PTI and pledged every possible support in sprucing up the electoral reforms process pending with the parliamentary committee on electoral reforms.

Talking to The Nation, PPP Senator and a vibrant member of Political Jirga Rehman Malik said that Jirga had played key role in breaking the impasse between the government and PTI and even come up with the suggestions and proposals for constitution of mutually acceptable judicial commission for probe of 2013 general elections. On the eve of announcing the agreement reached with PTI leaders at Punjab House on Friday last, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had acknowledged the support of Political Jirga in making the dialogue a success and hoped that their support would be with them in future as well.
