A mysterious fire gutted more than 100 shops in Landa bazaar, Sadiqabad in the wee of Saturday.

As per details, the fire, erupted due to unknown reason, engulfed the shops in Landa Bazaar which located between Railway Road and railway track near railway station, in no time.

Pakistan Railways Sukkur Divisional Superintendent Farrukh Tamour Gurzai told the media that there was valuable land of PR along the track from which five canals had been leased out to shopkeepers. However, two notorious persons - Nadeem Sharif and Ibrar Abbas backed by influential people of Sadiqabad, has encroached 3.5 kanals and 7 canals land of PR adjacent to the leased shops. He said that Nadeem Sharif and Ibrar Abbas, who had become patrons of land mafia, had established different shops on the occupied land. There are mostly makeshift shops where a fire erupted due to a short circuiting. The railways DS said that due to fire signal wires of railway stations were also damaged, resulting in delays in trains. He said that memo against Nadeem Sharif had been delivered to the Railways Police Khanpur SHO for registration of FIR. He said that instructions had been given to the PR officials to retrieve the land from the land mafia.

Meanwhile, Sadiqabad Assistant Commissioner Shakeel Bhatti told this correspondent that reason behind the fire could not be ascertained yet, however, it could a short circuit or mistake of a drug addict.

He claimed that estimated loss from the fire incident could be around Rs40 million but shopkeepers were claiming that had suffered Rs500 million losses. He said that with the efforts of Rescuer 1122 including public they saved half of Landa bazaar. According to Rescue 1122 officials, nine fire-fighting vehicles including Rescue 1122,TMA Sadiqabad, FFC and FFCL participated in operation and controlled the fire.
