Islamabad - Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has spent Rs 399 million on the renovation and expansion parking, international departure briefing area, creation of space for installation of latest security equipments and extra passengers’ check-in counters at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) Islamabad.   

The renovation, expansion and development work was completed in five months to further facilitate international and domestic passengers, Airport Manager, Muhammad Ayaz Jadoon told APP here.  

He informed that currently more than 18 international and domestic airlines are operating from the airport while number of passengers has crossed four million per annum.

Keeping in view the increasing number of airlines and the passengers, there was a dire need to enhance existing facilities for the passengers at the airport, he added.   

Giving details, he said that after the expansion work, space for installation of latest security equipments has been creased besides, extra passengers’ check-in counters and spacious area for manoeuvring of passengers.  

The Airport Manager said that the separate and exclusive car park of functionaries has considerably reduced the congestion in the exiting car park of passengers.  

“After the revamping of present car park, now 700 vehicles instead of 500 vehicles can be accommodated,” he added.

He informed that car park constructed near Nur Khan Base road has the capacity to accommodate 300 cars and 300 motorcycles of the employees of the CAA and airlines.   Ayaz Jadoon said that facility of taxiway at the airport helped in reducing fuel consumption of the airlines and time of the passengers.

Flight staggering technique is applied to accommodate more aircraft and segregate the passengers’ influx for their ultimate convenience, he added.

He said that a new website to provide better facilities and information to the passengers has been launched.

The website provides updated flights information, weather reports and position of the access roads leading to the airport, he added.

He said that new website is an authentic source of flight information and all other facilities and function of other allied government agencies.

The Airport Manager hoped that this information is definitely helpful for passengers and they’re near and dear to save their precious time and to avoid inconvenience of waiting for long.  He said that users are encouraged to send their feedback and comments that would help to improve the website further.
