LAHORE - Young Doctors Association (YDA) has threatened to close down Lahore on March 31 if demands of implementation of service structure, completion of delayed projects at different hospitals, provision of free medicine and payment of salaries to all PG trainees were not fulfilled.

Addressing a press conference at Jinnah Hospital on Saturday, YDa leader Dr Amer Bandesha said that over 1200 PG trainees were performing duties without salaries. Dr Tajjamal Butt, Dr Khurram Shahzad and Dr Shabbir Ahmed were also accompanying him.

Dr Bandesha said that the Punjab government had stopped payment to 300 PG trainees drawing salaries from districts. He said that the creation of 10,000 posts of doctors was merely eyewash. He said that YDA was demanding from the government to follow four tier formula while creating posts of doctors.

“The doctors in dental cadre have not been promoted for last 20 years,” he regretted.

Referring to the security at public sector hospitals, he said that terrorists could easily enter any premises, which was a serious threat for doctors and patients. He said that the doctors would close down Lahore on March 31 if the legitimate demands were not fulfilled. He said that doctors from Jinnah Hospital and Sheikh Zayed Hospital would block Canal Bank Road, those from Mayo Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital would block The Mall, from Children’s Hospital and Lahore General Hospital Ferozepur road, while doctors from Services Hospital and Punjab Institute of Cardiology would block Jail Road.

He added that the protest would continue for three weeks. The YDA Supreme Council would meet after these protest for devising future strategy, he further said.
