LAHORE - American Consul General Zachary Harkenrider met Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif yesterday and shared views on the matters of mutual interests, bilateral relations and cooperation in different sectors especially energy sector.

The Chief Minister said that there are multi-dimensional relations between Pakistan and America which will further strengthen in future. He said that Pakistan’s economy is growing fast due to which energy requirements are also increasing.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Inter-Faith Harmony Pir Aminul Hasnaat called on Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, here yesterday. Matters of mutual interest and promotion of religious harmony were discussed in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Shehbaz Sharif said that there is no room for extremism and terrorism in the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam and promotion of tolerance and restraint in the Pakistani society is the mission of the government. He said that there is a need for promotion of religious brotherhood, tolerance and restraint for setting up a peaceful society and collective efforts are needed to make Pakistan a haven of peace and harmony.

Separately, a 20-member delegation of Chinese investors and businessmen met CM Shehbaz. The Chinese investors expressed interest in investment in the project of setting up industrial park in Punjab. Shehbaz welcomed the interest shown by Chinese companies in investment in industrial park project and assured that all out facilities will be provided to Chinese investors. He said that the holding of Pak-China Business Forum has strengthened trade and business relations between the two countries. Secretary Communist Party of China Huang Zhigang said that China is proud of its friendship with Pakistan and economic and trade relations with Punjab will be further strengthened. He said that CPEC projects reflect the increasing economic cooperation between the two countries.

Dissatisfaction over hospital’s affairs: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif took strong exception to the inadequate supply of medicines to patients in Hafizabad DHQ Hospital.

The chief minister arrived in Hafizabad District Complex on a surprise visit through a helicopter on Monday and went straight to the DHQ Hospital on a van without getting any protocol. Shehbaz Sharif went around the Emergency, nursery ward, labour room, operation theatres and main medicine store. The CM expressed his resentment over insanitary conditions prevailed in the hospital. He also expressed his astonishment to see that store room of the Operation Theatre was locked. He broke open the lock and inspected the store room. He ordered an inquiry into the incomplete record of the medicines store and ordered sealing the store immediately.

Shehbaz Sharif enquired from the patients and their attendants about the standards of healthcare at hospital. At which attendants of scores of patients complained about non-provision of medicines to the patients. He ordered the doctors to be courteous towards the patients and provide requisite medicines to the patients. The chief minister informed that the government has accorded top priority to the provision of healthcare and it is imperative for the doctors to perform their duties with commitment and missionary zeal.

He warned that negligence on the part of doctors would not be tolerated. The Punjab CM also visited the Computerised Land Record Centre at the District Complex and expressed satisfaction over the computerisation of land record.

Hafizabad DCO Muhammad Ahmad Rajwana, DPO Haroon Joyia and other officers of the district accompanied the chief minister during the visit and briefed him about their respective departments.
