Pakistan Day being observed across country today

The nation celebrates Pakistan Day today with simplicity amidst an outbreak of the novel coronavirus and with the pledge to fight the disease as it spreads across the country.

All kind of public gatherings, including the showpiece military parade, have been postponed as precautionary measures.

The Pakistan Day parade has been rescheduled owing to bad weather in Islamabad.

According to the army’s public relations wing, the parade has been rescheduled due to rain forecast by the Pakistan Metrological Department in Islamabad for the next two days.

The Day will dawn with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. It is a public holiday today.

Special prayers will be offered in mosques after Fajr prayers for the progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country.

Pakistan Day is observed to commemorate the passage of the Lahore Resolution on this day in 1940, under which the Muslims of the sub-continent set the agenda of achieving a separate homeland.

In this regard, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar shared a video message in which he expressed his thoughts on the account of Pakistan Day.

He said, “In the history of independence, Pakistan Day, March 23, can never be forgotten. Praise is to God, today we are free, but this freedom is the result of many sacrifices and efforts.”

From the establishment of Pakistan to the construction of Pakistan, the journey continues gradually, he added.

He emphasised that every member of the nation has to go ahead and play his role.

Moreover, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent congratulatory messages to Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Dr Arif Alvi.

“Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, sent the congratulatory message on the occasion of a national holiday – the Pakistan Day to H.E. Dr. A. Alvi, President of Pakistan, and H.E. Mr. Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan,” Russian Embassy in Pakistan said on Twitter.
