LAHORE - PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has expressed his concerns about the US drone attacks in Pakistan and the displacement of almost 2 million people from Swat and Buner. He was talking to US Ambassador Ms Anne W Patterson who called on him at his residence at Raiwind, Lahore. He informed the Ambassador about the relief measures being taken by the government of Punjab and the PML-N for the IDPs. Sharif appreciated the assistance of world community for the displaced people. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and US Consulate Principal Officer Brian D Hunt were also present on the occasion. EU Ambassador Mr Jan De Kok also called on Nawaz Sharif at his residence and discussed with him the current international scenario and the relief work being carried out for the IDPs. He remained with Nawaz Sharif for some time and conveyed to him the concerns of European Union on the biggest displacement of people after the independence of Pakistan. The EU Ambassador also mentioned that good governance and independence of judiciary in Pakistan would strengthen democracy. Nawaz Sharif thanked him for the sympathies expressed by the EU Ambassador and assistance for the displaced people. He also appreciated the support extended by the European Union for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan. Stability, progress top priority of Govt: 'N Senior Political Assistant to Chief Minister and former MNA Muhammad Pervez Malik has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-N was giving priority to national interest and its agenda was stability, progress and prosperity of the country. Addressing to a ceremony here on Thursday he said that Islam did not allow extremism so we should condemn it No party could dictate PML-N on its policies, he added. He said that the leadership of 'N League never relied on any external force to come into power, nor it would do so in the future. He said Mian Nawaz Sharif never came under the pressure of any body and even today he could sacrifice his life for the national interest of country. Pervez Malik said that hypocrisy and prejudice were more dangerous than unrest; therefore, the efforts should not be made to bulldoze the declaration of APC for the sake of national interest. He said during this difficult time the democratic forces should try to save the integrity of the country by uniting the masses at a platform. He said that the people never gave vote to anti-state party or leadership, adding that if Pervez Musharraf wants to come into politics he would have to face accountability process.
