KARACHI - The Sindh government has showed willingness to allow the arrival of wheat from Punjab to the Sindh as well to Balochistan. The official said the Sindh government has taken this position to avoid the shutting off flour mills from today (22nd May) given strike call by central body of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association. A meeting was held between Provincial Director of Food Department Shifatullah Unar and a delegation of Flour Mills Association of Sindh Zone on Thursday to discuss the issues raised by flour mills body. Johar Qandhari Chairman Flour Mills Association Sindh Zone who led the delegation in meeting with the officials of Food Department, while talking to The Nation claimed that meeting was successful as Food Department accepted their demand to withdraw the ban which restricted the free movement of wheat from Punjab. He said the Food Department accepting their demand assured them free movement of wheat in all over the country. Earlier, the provincial food department did not allow supply of wheat from Punjab to flour mills. Even wheat supply from Punjab to Balochistan was also blocked. The Provincial Chairman of flour mills body Johar Qandhari said they raised the issue to abolish the illegal vigilance team formed by Sindh Food Minister Mir Nadir Magsi, which according to him, were serving no positive purpose other than harassing the flour mills. Director of Food Department of Sindh went CM House to get approval of both demands, to withdraw ban on free movement from Punjab and abolishment of vigilance team consisting of private people immediately, Qandhari claimed. He was optimist about the outcome of meeting and hoped that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah will take both issues positively. If both demands were met by the Sindh government then flour mills will call off their strike which will begin from today (Friday) 22nd May, otherwise all the flour mills will go on strike as announced by central body, he said. Meanwhile, Secretary Food Department of Sindh Kamran Naveed Baloch said the issue of flour mills will be solved as government will accept the lawful demands, but government will not come into blackmailing of flour mills. While, till the filling of this news story, both parties, Food Department and flour mills owners were optimistic about matter.
