LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Friday stayed marriage of a convict in Kot Lakhpat jail acting on the petition of girls father who had earlier got the courts permission to marry the prisoner. Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry directed the superintendent Central Jail Kot Lakhpat to stop Liabas marriage with prisoner Attique-ur-Rehman in jail when the girls father told the court that Liaba was already married to Nadeem of Sialkot. The girls father also presented a copy of the nikkahnama in the court for proof of his claim and prayed a stay order may be issued against his daughters second marriage. Earlier on May 12 on Laibas request the court had allowed death convict Attique to marry Laiba in jail. The case was adjourned till June 9. Petitioner Muhammad Sarwar, father of the girl, had filed the petition challenging the courts order dated May 12 in which the court had permitted Laiba Sahar to marry a convict in jail. Sarwar submitted his daughter and Attiques family misled the court by hiding facts to get courts permission for marriage. He said her real name was Sidra Kanwal and not Laiba Sahar. The petitioner said his daughter who may be called Laiba or Sidra was married to Naddem on April 26 but later she was kidnapped by the Attiques family. Since then his daughter is in illegal custody and control of Attiques mother Mst Zobeda and father Muhammad Yousaf who are inspiring her to marry Attique. He said an FIR against Sidras kidnap was registered in police station civil lines Lahore. Passing orders for cancelling the marriage, the judge directed the additional advocate general to produce the girl in the court on June 9, the cases next date of hearing. Attique is locked up in Kot Lakhpat for years in multiple cases of heinous nature ranging from kidnap for ransom and murder. Earlier, Laiba had submitted in her petition that she is fiance of prisoner Attique-ur-Rehman. The girl submitted she was engaged to Attique in childhood and sought permission to marry him in jail pleading it was her constitutional right to marry a man of her choice. On her request Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry had directed the superintendent of central jail Kot Lakhpat to facilitate nikha (wedding) in jail premises. Attique is in jail since 14/9/ 2002 after he was sentenced by ATC-II Lahore.
