LAHORE - The PPPs Punjab organization on Friday came down hard on the judiciary and accused it of delivering biased verdicts in the cases involving PPP ministers. Addressing a joint news conference here at party office, PPPs Punjab General Secretary Sami Ullah Khan and Deputy Secretary Usman Saleem Malik said that PPP reserved the right to lodge protest if Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto are tried. The bail plea of Dr Usman, the mastermind of attack on GHQ and on the Sri Lankan cricket team has been accepted, while that of Rehman Malik who played key role against terrorists has been cancelled, the two leaders lamented. They also justified presidential pardon for Mr Malik, saying that Presidents had been exercising such powers in the past and some big wigs also benefited from these constitutional powers of head of the state. The PPP leaders criticized President Supreme Court Bar Association, Qazi Anwar, saying that he was using indecent language against party leadership and threatening of a long march on Islamabad. They said PPP was being forced towards confrontation, but it could not be cowed down by threats of long march. If we gave a call for long march then it would be considered a threat against the judiciary, they observed. They said all institutions including political governments committed some mistakes in the past. The PPP and the PML-N realized their mistakes and signed the CoD, but other institutions are not willing to accept their mistakes, they said without naming any one. Talking about the outcome of recent by-elections in Punjab, they said it was evident from the results that unlike general perception, PPPs popularity graph had gone up. The PPP got around 35000 more votes than the PML-N in four constituencies of Punjab collectively, they claimed.
