132 wheelies face campaign action

LAHORE The Capital City Traffic Police on Saturday claimed to have lodged 132 first information reports against wheelies so far in a special drive initiated against the violators of traffic rules. According to the spokesman, thousand of tickets have also been issued to the violators of traffic rules and regulations resultantly a sharp decrease in violation of each kind was observed during the recent month. Chief Traffic Officer SSP Syed Ahmed Mobin further directed all the circle in-charges especially Ring Road I Circle Officer DSP Ikram, Ring Road II DSP Munir Butt and DSP Safdar Mehdi to abide by the traffic rules on imperative roads of the city. He further warned them that he (CTO) himself would conduct surprise visits to various points on Sunday (today). punishes 44 cops; 53 issued notices: The Mujahid Squad superintendent of police has punished 44 police officers on charges of negligence including a major punishment of dismissal from service here on Saturday. However, the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) said that a snake bit one of their rescuers - Haq Nawaz - during the rescue operation. The victim rescuer was shifted to a nearby hospital where his condition was told stable till filing of this report. About five people of the same family were drowned in Ravi in Friday night. The bodies were identified as Ramzan alias Jani and Hamza. Police investigators said they were here for a picnic and six members of the family jumped into the river for freshness. Only one body was recovered on Friday while two were recovered on Saturday.
