There is a reported loadshedding of 18 hours per day in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa as reported in press but ANP stalwart Ghulam Ahmad Bilour says that if Kalabagh dam is built Pakistan would be broken. This is true of a Pathan who was asked to move into shade from sun but refused to come in shade and asked as to how much money would be paid to him to come in shade. The situation has reached a stage wherein Punjab may be forced to ask for a reduced version of Kalabagh dam to get its share of 37 percent out of 6.1 MAF as agreed in Water Accord of 1991. As such Punjab can claim to store 2.257 MAF of water storage for its exclusive use and let the rest 3.843 MAF water to flow downstream unutilized as Kheber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Baluchistan do not want water to be stored in Kalabagh dam. Accordingly Punjab could utilize its share of stored water to generate 1332 Mega watts of energy from its share of water out of 3600 MW capacity of full design of Kalabagh dam. Why should Punjab suffer for inflexibility of Khyber Pakhunkhwa against Kalabagh dam. DR. MUHAMMAD YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, May 21.
