The officials concerned of the Punjab Education Department failed to conduct survey of government schools despite the passage of a period of two months under the Punjab government’s plan to convert 8,000 government schools to solar energy system,in Gujranwala Division’s all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.
Two months ago, the Punjab government had announced conversion of 8,000 different government schools in Gujranwala Division to the solar energy system, directing the officials concerned of the Punjab Energy Commission, provincial education department and local district governments to conduct the survey of the government schools for this purpose.
According to senior officials, the main purpose of the conversion to solar energy system to ensure maximum saving of energy, besides, saving hundreds of thousands of innocent students from the menace of loadshedding of electricity.
The project has to be completed in the current fiscal year.
As many as 1,696 government schools in Gujranwala district, 1,551 government schools in Sialkot district, 1,380 schools in Narowal district, 1,400 schools in Gujrat district, 1,395 schools in Mandi Bahaud Din district and 712 government schools in Hafizabad district have to be converted to solar energy system.
