ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday directed a deputy director of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to appear before the court on Thursday (today) in a petition seeking arrest of a lawyer who along with an accomplice allegedly raped his niece and filmed the appalling incident.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui issued these directions and summoned the deputy director FIA while hearing a petition moved by the mother of victim girl, a student of MBBS final year.
The petitioner has requested the court that it may direct the FIA to procure the arrest of vice president of Fateh Jang Bar Association Tariq Mehmood who along with his accomplice Abdul Hameed Butt committed the crime and fled the country.
Earlier, the FIR of the incident was registered with the New Town police station of Rawalpindi on September 30, 2013 and it was alleged that the accused Tariq Mehmood along with Abdul Hameed Butt forcibly raped his niece. The FIR further alleges that both the accused made video footage of the incident to blackmail the victim girl in order to silence her.
The victim girl is a resident of Gujranwala and was residing at the house of her aunt Shazia Ahmad advocate, spouse of the accused Tariq Mehmood. At the time of incident, the victim's aunt was in England. The chief justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) had also taken suo moto notice of the incident and had constituted a committee. The mother of victim moved the IHC and alleged when police started investigation of the incident after the suo moto notice, Tariq Mehmood obtained a protective bail from the Peshawar High Court and managed to escape from the country.
A local court conducting trial in this matter has already declared Mehmood an absconder and issued his red warrants.
She informed the single bench of IHC that the accused lawyer has been harassing, pressurising and threatening her daughter through telephonic calls and has been asking her to withdraw the case. She added that FIA has traced locations of the accused through telephonic calls and found that he has been in Malaysia.
Therefore, the aggrieved mother prayed to the court to direct FIA to arrest the accused with the help of Interpol.
The court would again take up this matter here on Thursday (today).
