ISLAMABAD - The signing ceremony of 3G/4G licences recently won by the mobile operators in the next generation spectrum auction is going to be held on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Auction was held on April 23, 2014, in which 4 out of 5 present mobile operators took part. In the auction Zong won 4G and all other operators won 3G licences. As per details Zong won 10 MHz in 1800 band that is 4G band and it also won 10 MHz in 2100 MHz band of 3G.

Mobilink won 10 MHz in 2100 MHz band of 3G, whereas Telenor and Ufone won 5 MHz each in 2100 MHz band of 3G. The total amount the government secured through this auction was $1.12 billion.

There was a due process of issuing licences that included payments from the mobile operators those won 3G and 4G licences. In the present situation Zong has made the full payment whereas other operators also have paid the minimum payment that was mandatory to obtain the licence.

Though officially on Wednesday the mobile operators are going to have their licences to launch 3G and 4G services but they have started working right after the auction day of 23rd April.

As per market sources, as far as 3G service are concerned the operators are going to launch these service by the end of running month of May. Warid Telecom that did not take part in the present auction, already has 8.8 MHz in 1800 band.

Warid’s licence is technology neutral that means it could offer 4G services any time earlier to this auction that it didn’t do but now it is expected that the said company is going to launch 4G services in the start of June.
