KARACHI - Law enforcement agencies claimed to have killed seven alleged criminals and terrorists in various encounters here on Wednesday.

Rangers claimed to have killed a militant affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an encounter that took place at Ijtamaagha Road in Manghopir police precincts.

Ranger spokesman said the rangers’ team conducted a raid at a house on a tip off. When rangers’ personnel came close to their hideout, terrorists started firing and tried to escape under the cover of firing. During an exchange of fire, one militant identified as Saifullah was killed and his accomplice managed to flee. Rangers claimed the militant was involved in the blast at Rangers Headquarters. At the time of raid, they were planning for another attack.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have gunned down two alleged criminals in an encounter in Surjani Town locality.

DSP Shaukat Shahani when contacted said two bandits reached KDA flats mobile market in Surjani area to rob the shops. When shopkeepers offered resistance and tried to catch them, the criminals managed to flee from the scene. Police and rangers were informed by the locals. The law enforcers killed both of them in an alleged exchange of fire. The bodies were rushed to morgue for identification after autopsy.

On the other side, Kharadar police claimed to have killed two gangsters at Mirchi Wali Gali when gangsters attacked the police mobile which was on routine patrol in the area. Two gangsters sustained bullet wounds in an exchange of fire while two of their accomplices managed to flee from the scene.

Police officials also claimed to have recovered two hand grenades, two pistols, eight SIM cards of different cellular companies from their possession. The victims were identified as Nadeem aka Lamba and Abdul Rehman aka Bubble. DSP Zahid Hussain said they were associated with a notorious Lyari gangster group - Sheraz Comrade Group.

Police had been looking for them in several criminal cases including murders, attempt to murders, encounters with the police, kidnapping and extortion.

Two other gangsters were also killed during an alleged encounter at Lyari Expressway by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell of the police. The encounter took place in Garden area when police were trying to overpower the gangsters.

Both the gangsters of Lyari sustained fatal bullet wounds and died on the way to Civil Hospital Karachi. They were later identified as Nizamuddin and Muhammad Ali aka Babu. Police said they were involved in more than nine cases of bank robberies and murders. Further investigation was underway.
