Sarwar demands Morsi’s retrial

LAHORE - PTI leader Ch Sarwar on Thursday called upon the European parliamentarians to persuade the Egyptian government for revoking the death sentence to Mohammad Morsi by ordering a fair retrial.
In his letter to the parliamentarians, the PTI leader urged them to use their good offices to make the Egyptian government realise that the death sentence awarded to the ousted president is cruel and falls shot of the principles of justice.
He requested them to raise the issue in their respective parliaments and open a channel of dialogue with the Egyptian government.
“As the death sentence to a popular and elected president would not help the incumbent government. In fact, it would cast a shadow on the best intentions and policies of the current leadership,” sources quote his letter.
The death sentence would be considered as a judicial murder, a continued stain on the fair name of the present leadership of the country, Sarwar opined.
JI PROTESTS: Meanwhile, according to a press statement issued from Mansoora, the Jamaat-e-Islami would hold protest rallies against the death sentence of Dr Morsi today (Friday) in Islamabad and Karachi.
The demonstration in the federal capital would be held at Aab Para chowk and would be led by JI chief Sirajul Haq. JI secretary general would lead the demonstration in Karachi.
