LAHORE - The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced remodeling and improvement of five traffic junctions along Maulana Shoukat Ali Road, besides construction of eight U-turns along Khayaban-e-Firdousi, Khayaban-e-Jinnah and near Karim Block Market Allama Iqbal Town, at a cost of Rs.252 million.

Maulana Shaukat Ali Road is a major structural plan road connecting southern part of the city with Multan Road, Motorway and vice versa. After construction of new link through Punjab University from Canal Bank to Multan Road, there is an immense increase in the traffic pressure at junctions of Maulana shaukat Ali Road especially from Jinnah hospital to Akbar Chowk.

The project includes remodeling of five of junctions from Jinnah Hospital to Akbar Chowk, along Maulana Shoukat Ali Road and covering of 1005 meters long drain along Maulana Shaukat Ali Road at these junctions.

Traffic congestion problems have also been observed along Khayaban-e-Firdosi from Shouk Chowk to Shaukat Khanum Hospital intersection.

Construction of four U-Turns along Khayaban-e-Firdousi, two U-Turns along Khayaban-e-Jinnah, one U-turn near Karim Block Market and another U-trun at short of Roundabout at Kharak Drain will also be carried out under this project.

This project for the remodeling of junctions and construction of U-turns will be executed for facilitating smooth flow of traffic and avoiding long queues of vehicles in the southern part of the provincial metropolis, especially around hospitals near these locations.

Another objective is to improve the environmental conditions by reducing the greenhouse gasses and noise generated due to the traffic blockage specifically near Jinnah Hospital Chowk and Shaukat Khanum Hospital Chowk.
